Prerequisites and Notes

- You must speak Krombral (Giant language) in order to receive this quest.
- You must have completed Little Tarby Lost to receive this quest.
- Crafting ability to successfully complete a level 9 tradeskill combine. (Can be completed via the Commission system of crafting)
- You might want to do The Dusty Blue Stone , a prerequisite for Restoring Ghoulbane while on this quest. It requires you to get 40 rock samples from wind swept stones, which can be done at the same time as one of the steps on this quest.
- You also might want to do Journeyman Service it requires 50 harvest in this zone as well which can be done while doing the others.
- If you have completed the Sundered Splitpaw questline and gotten your " a glowing azure shard " you can use this to get back to Thundering Steppes very easily once you finish with the forge.

- Examine the Cracked Stone Hand Axe that Obsid gives you for finding his pet bear, Tarby Boulderboom .

Mine 10 granite pieces, an uncommon harvest from wind swept stones in
The Thundering Steppes
. This may take some time to complete. One nearby mining area is the region around the Ruins of Karana ( -392, -3, 459 )
/waypoint -392.34, -2.98, 459.01
. Also run the full length of Dead River Basin where you will find nodes. There are also generally a few nodes around The Shrine of Decay ( 343, 1, 1155 )

. This update is uncommon to rare.
- Upon receiving your 10th piece, you will get a quest update rewarding you a pristine piece of granite and the Granite Tomahawk Recipe .

At a forge in any tradeskill center, combine the pristine granite with a piece of
severed ash
, a
sparkling material
, a
glimmering coal
, and the
Cracked Stone Hand Axe
from
Obsid
, creating a
dull tomahawk
.
- Note: You have to be at least Artisan Level 9 to scribe the recipe. (recipe can be completed using the commission system)
- Return to Obsid to show him the axe .

Sharpen the
axe
by killing 100 skeletons in the
The Thundering Steppes
. Try ( 126, -22, 756 )
/waypoint 126.46, -22.24, 756.47
for 6 skeletons with fast respawn.
- Upon defeating your 100th skeleton, you will get a quest update rewarding you a Sharpened Granite Tomahawk .

Return to
Obsid
to show him the
axe
.
- Note: a timer for the next step starts as soon as you finish speaking to him.
- Within a one hour time limit, kill 25 Skindancer gnolls. (Various locations; ( 543, -24, 1130 ) /waypoint 543, -24, 1130 Skindancer Sentry , Skindancer Seer , Skindancer Legionnaire , Skindancer Knight or Skindancer Defiler all give updates for this step)
- Return to Obsid .

Enter the
Cove of Decay
and slay the
The Octagorgon
for its ink. Note that this giant octopus cannot be pulled out of the water, and shortly after engaging it, a group of heroic skeletons will spawn.
- Note: Once The Octagorgon is dead, consider examining the highlightable crates on the ocean floor underneath the spawn point to receive a Partially Digested Hand , one of the required items in Stiletto's Orders Intercepted .
