I created a new subcategory in the Item Icon Category here
Category:Gem Icons
I would like to go through an remove the item icon flag from many of the icons in the "Gem Icon" Category. This would make the item icon category much more easy to read instead of having to filter out all the gems if you aren't looking for a gem icon.
I'd also to be willing to go through the gem icons and make the names more uniform in the icons so it is easier to find a gem you are looking. If you give me the ability to rename the files I can go through and do that instead of tagging a bunch of icons with renames. Jado818 ( talk ) 00:50, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
- Would you believe I had the same idea quite some time ago? [1] Nobody bit though. As far as categorization goes I'm fine with removing Category:Item Icons from the gems and stones. Category:Item Icons would be added to your Category:Gem Icons to make it a subcategory similar to Animal Icons and Book Icons to then make it a subcategory. - Sorry, I missed this first time round. I have no problem with what you propose, go for it. I think the original idea was that by having them all in both categories you could just dig through Category:Item Icons as a last resort if you couldn't find an icon you needed in a different category, but it wasn't done consistently so that goal is rather moot.
- Actually if you want, I can probably take care of this with a bot run. Let me know if you want to dust off AWB to take care of it, I already generated the list at User:Lordebon/DPL -- lordebon ( talk ) 17:42, February 10, 2014 (UTC)

- It would be easier to run a bot and remove those item icon categories on the gem icons. There are a few gem icons I'd like retag again as item icons after the bot run there aren't many.

- I'd also like to go through the remaining item icons and try to normalize some of the names. A lot of the item icon naming conventions are haphazardly arranged. One example (and there are many more) is File:Icon red rose (Common).png vs File:Icon rose white (Common).png . If you give me the ability to change the names of these icons I can go through and normalize some of the names. It would help prevent people from uploading duplicates and make the icon searching process easier. Jado818 ( talk ) 19:49, February 10, 2014 (UTC)

Bot run complete, the Item Icons category has been removed from all of those. With that said, I'm not sure I understand why you want to go back and re-add the category; if the idea is to have them all in subcategories then why leave some in the main category as well;a re they different in some way from the others?
For image moves, at this time I'm going to trust you to use it and rollback appropriately. Just remember to start a discussion before undertaking any major changes. -- lordebon ( talk ) 18:53, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
- I won't make any major changes without discussing them. I looked at the gem icons and I'm not sure why I thought some of them would have needed to be in both item and gem icon category, so I won't add any back to the item icon category. I'll start working my way through and organizing the icon names here this weekend some time. Jado818 ( talk ) 20:58, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
