I recently created a disamb page for an item call a map .
I then made two articles called a map (Burglars Afoot) and a map (Hunt for the Greenmist) .
I think this is an ok way to set up articles for different items that share a name but there may be another solution out there.
Anyways. The problem when setting up articles this way is the item box that gets marked up on the article shows the (Burglars Afoot) or (Hunt for the Greenmist) portion of the page name. I was wondering if there would be a way to add a flag to item template which would allow a person to type in a custom name for the item box. It could default to the page name, but if somebody types something on that line it would markup the typed words for the item box. Jado818 ( talk ) 16:16, November 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Yes that is a good was to sort it
- and yes it's possible to add such information
-
I edited A map (Burglars Afoot)
- {{dab|a map}} got added on top to link back to the disambig page
-
i added within the article the line
altname =a map|
- with that it changes the item name

I noticed something today when I added the item cracked harpy egg to the wiki. The template seems to be broken on some items and I'm not sure why. I checked a few other items and the same thing was going on. Here is an image.
Does it look like this to anybody else or is it just me? Jado818 ( talk ) 15:57, February 5, 2014 (UTC)
- I just did a purge of the page and it shows properly to me. Does it still show messed up to you now? It looks like in the image you show the variables extension wasn't working properly, maybe wikia was updating or having an issue temporarily. -- lordebon ( talk ) 16:12, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

- Hmm, I tried clearing my browser history and all the temp files and stuff, I also turned off No script and the page displays correctly on the wikia layout, but it appears broken on the monobook layout.

It's weird too because some pages will display correctly while others won't. I only notice this on items, it doesn't matter the item type. I looked at a few different types like language primers, quest items, food, etc and it does the same thing but not always and I haven't seen anything in the actual page markup code that points to a reason. Maybe it will correct itself, idk.

Looked crappy for me too, I did a blank save to force the update now it looks fine again. --

I don't think it's an update because it still looks messed up to me today. There must be something else going on that causes the template to break down.
