The Guide Program has established a clear dividing line in game between Guides and GMs: guides are volunteer role-players who run special quests and pass out goodies, while GMs are paid Sony workers who unstick characters, restore lost items, boot AFK players, &c..
"Live Events" has also taken on a clearer meaning with Sony's inclusion of the "Live Events" Achievement. While a "live event" once also meant a real person behind the toon handing out a quest, now it is only for activities that happen during the holidays: there are no guide quests required to complete the Live Events achievements. They have also deleted the journal category Live Events , moving the few non-deleted questss to other categories (i.e., Petrified Pumpkin Pies to Antonica and Lost Frostfell Gifts to World Event).
eq2i currently has a mishmash of old and new meanings amongst the articles and categories:
- Live Events : describes mostly guide quests
- Category:Live Events : lists in-game holiday events
- GM Event : describes the quests that guides give out
- Category:GM Event : a empty category
- Category:GM Event Quests : lists the quests that guides have given out
- Guides of the Shattered Lands : explains what guides are
- Live Events Achievements : as yet unwritten, this Achievement was introduced in 2013 and is based solely on holiday happenings, not guide quests
To clarify the articles and categories, I propose the following:
Guides:
- Expand/rewrite Guides of the Shattered Lands with a prominent section explaining how (and when) they run quests
-
Delete GM Event or redirect -
Delete Category:GM Event or redirect - Disambiguate Category:User Guides at the top of the Guides article and vice versa
Guide quests:
-
Create Category:Guide Quests -
Move all quests currently in Category:GM Event Quests to the above category -
Delete the now-empty category or redirect it -
Link the article Guides of the Shattered Lands on the Category:Guide Quests page (above the fold)
Live events:
-
Rewrite the article Live Events to cover just the holidays; in fact, steal the top of Category:Live Events for it - Add an overview of the Live Events Achievement
-
Explain that there might be guides passing out special holiday-themed quests during these dates -
Link the article Live Events on the Category:Live Events page (where the table is now) -
Create Live Events Achievements and populate appropriately
I seek questions and/or comments on any of these proposals. Even a passing SOFIXIT from a regular contributor would be welcome. 71.234.215.133 03:54, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds pretty reasonable to me. A lot of it is simply creep in the names over time... in EQ1 even guide events were called "GM Events," but guides back then also had significant CS-type powers that made them more true GMs, unlike EQ2's guides. I would leave a dab on the Live Events pointing to say Guide Quests explaining what they are and whatnot, that way the matching category can be kept short (then the Guides page doesn't need to cover the quests as much per se as the actual general info on the guides). Similarly you can take the table from the Live Events category and move it to the Live Events page then. If you want to run with it, I say go for it, it would definitely be an improvement to the kind outdated mismash we have currently. -- lordebon ( talk ) 13:51, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

- Created the Live Events Achievements article, cat and subcats, and altered the few achievement articles that fit. Waiting for help with the template(s) before adding more LE Ach articles. 71.234.215.133 05:21, August 2, 2013 (UTC)

- Most done now, although need to track down all the "What Links Here" for redirected items.
- Please note I have asked for a rename/move of a category talk page to an article talk page . The category is now redirected, but its talk page holds historic conversations about the creation of the article, which I did not see until I went to redirect said talk page. 71.234.215.133 08:46, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

- The talk page was originally related to the category, so I've moved it to the new category talk rather than the article talk (the usual rule is to keep the talk with the exact page moved; since the category effectively moved, the talk is normally kept with the category). -- lordebon ( talk ) 12:47, August 7, 2013 (UTC)
