Some time ago, it was decided that EQ2i would not cover
Legends of Norrath
and a
new wikia wiki
was made to that end. That wiki has long been defunct (it died off around the first expansion set). I'd like for us to cover the
loot cards only,
at least in a rudimentary way since they do have an impact on EQ2 and are often quite popular. To that end, I'd like to propose...
- A new subcategory to Category:Legends of Norrath , Category:Loot Cards
- Standardize naming of all loot card rewards that share a name with other items to have a "(LoN Loot)" suffix
- Allow the creation of a template for and pages for all the EQ2 loot cards, all of which are to be named with a "(LoN Card)" suffix and will have an image of the card as well as which expansion set it is from.

I admit to only a passing acquaintance with LoN, since I play EQ2, not a card game. My opinions, point by point:
- By using Template:LoNLoot for the Obtain line, the item is automatically put under Category:Loot Card Rewards , which is already a sub-category of Category:Legends of Norrath .
- The current suffix for shared names is (LoN Card). Changing it to (LoN Loot) seems cosmetic.
-
When the item is claimed, it becomes an EQ2 item/equipment, and the standard templates work. Adding the picture of the card as it is in the LoN system would be a waste: this is the EQ2 wiki, not the LoN wiki.
- Ditto with adding the expansion. I find it sufficient to know that it is a LoN loot card. If I want more information I can get it elsewhere, and the fact that the LoN wiki is defunct is not this wiki's problem.

If the community would like to include the loot cards that are useable in game, I think that would be a great way for people to know what can be claimed. But I agree with Janze-Nek that any and all cards would be a waste of our time because this is an EQ2i wiki, not a LoN wiki. The disambiguation ideas that Lordebon has are decent, I think. Does anyone else have thoughts?-- Kodia 14:22, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with not including every card (the huge nature of that task is what sunk the other wiki... plus the fact that that info isn't that useful, and certainly not related to EQ2). In response to Janze-Nek's commentins about the cosmetic change... if we're making pages for the loot card which would contain the expansions set information, it would make more sense for those pages to be named "Card" since they're the actual card and thus move the others to "Loot" since they're what you get from the cards. But I do think having a page for the actual loot card would be worthwhile, since that is the only way you can actually get the item in EQ2, and having which set is comes from on that page would tell people which kind of pack they'd be likely to get it in. I certainly don't want to turn this place into a LoN site (I don't actually play the game competitively, I just do the scenarios for the loot cards), I just wanted to have the cards as a resource for those interested in the items from it from an EQ2 perspective. -- lordebon 14:48, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

It seems to me that everything proposed is already in place and/or can be modified to fit the ideas set forth by Lordebon:
- Every page that uses the {{LoN}} template at the top of its page gets listed under Category:Legends of Norrath and Category:Loot Card Rewards . Every page that uses the {{LoNLoot}} gets listed on Category:Loot Card Rewards . That is two pages with the lists of loot cards. Compare the "What links here" of both templates and make sure all the articles use both templates.
-
Modify the {{LoNLoot}} Obtain template to allow the expansion to be added if it is known - {{LoNLoot|Expansion}}. I foresee problems when the same loot card is used in more than one set/expansion, but it will give a starting place.
- I see no reason to make categories for the expansions, but am ambivalent if someone else sees a need for them in the EQ2 wiki.
-
Change the suffix (LoN Card) to (LoN Loot) to keep it in line with the {{LoNLoot}} Obtain template.
- Cross-reference {{LoN}} and {{LoNLoot}} and make sure the listed pages get the suffix, whether it currently duplicates an in-game item at this time or or not.
- Verify that in-game items and (LoN Loot) items that currently share names [i.e., Draught of the Wise (LoN Card) , Draught of the Wise ] are {{dab}}'d at the top of their pages to point to the other article.
- In my opinion, making a specific template just for LoN cards is asking it to be used for non-loot cards. Let the current Item/Equip templates carry on.

Unless anyone has any major objections, I'm going to start working on this project. I understand your reservations, Janze-Nek. What you wrote on 28 March is a pretty accurate summary. I don't think a template for loot cards will be used for other cards... I honestly don't think anyone cares enough about the regular cards to bother. And if someone comes along that really does... well they can always be directed to wikia:lon . -- lordebon 18:13, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
If you need anything unlocked, drop me a talk page message. By the way, if anyone here is a avid LON player, and wants to get lon.wikia going again, just ask, and I'll get you admin rights there. -- Uberfuzzy 19:51, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Objection . This is the EQ2 wiki, not the the LoN wiki. EQ2 and LoN are radically different: EQ2 is MMORPG and LoN is an online CCG. This wiki already has templates in place to cover those (few) LoN cards that effect EQ2. If you want to cover more than what affects EQ2, go to the LoN wiki . Janze-Nek 23:16, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
We should have pages on the Everquest 2 rewards from LoN loot cards but not pages on the cards they come from, because those cards dont exist in our world (being eq2, not lon) and have no meaning.. the items begin to exist in the /claim menu, and not before. we should (if known) list what LoN card it comes from just as a convience to the players of EQ2. And if maybe someone cares, use the interwiki to link over the lon wiki (if it werent dead). if any additional information (such as what expansion its from) should be as a text note on the page, not in the template, but should not be a giant priority to track down (feel free to do so if you are an avid lon player and know these thigns)
personally, i think the suffix should be " (LoN)" not even loot, or card, as there are many LoN->EQ2 items that, while technically come from a "loot card", are not from boosters (things like rewards from timely story scenarios) -- Uberfuzzy 23:53, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
