Monk Class Expectations Edit

The Monk class is very versatile. We get FD, which is useful for everything from avoiding death, killing heroic groups in pieces, getting past see-invis mobs, and AFK-ing in an unsafe zone. We get an Invis, which we can cast on the move, but drains our power while active. Once you get 12 AA, using the Str line, you can avoid purchasing weapons for the rest of your life. For these reasons, the monk is a great solo class.

The monk is a capable group tank, although doesn't have as many group aggro CAs as other tank classes.. Monks can pretty easily tank for standard heroic content.

The monk is an avoidance tank. This is good and bad. This is good because our armor is typically cheaper than plate. This is bad because our tank depends heavily on the RNG (random number generator) of the game, which can be a bit streaky. This means our tank is inconsistent, especially in heroic and higher fights. Even though you have a 60%+ chance to avoid damage, that doesn't mean you won't get hit 10x in a row.

Soloability Edit

Heroics Edit

A monk can solo green heroics, even ^^^ named, provided your gear and Combat Arts are decent (MasterCrafted gear, Adept 3 in the important CAs, Adept 1 in others), but it may be a close fight depending on how green it is, your proficiency with the character, and a smidgeon of luck.

A monk can solo blue heroics that are in groups with this process: Kill as many as you can, FD when health gets low, find a safe corner and heal up, repeat.

Monk solo fights with non-grey heroics are inconsistent due to our avoidance tank. You might get beat like you stole something the first time, and then do pretty well the next time. Don't be shy about FD-ing, healing up and trying again.

Epics Edit

It is possible with some easier and very grey epics (Vindiami when you are 20+ levels higher, for instance). You will need good gear (MC or better), and it will still be a very long and close fight. I killed Vindiami (for a lingering grey quest) solo at 52 after a couple of dozen tries, some CA rotation tweaking, some AA changes, and some gear upgrades. Killed Magolemus at 70, Huntersmaster Viswin at 80 on the first try.I have also been able to solo Anguis at level 40.

Discussion Edit

Would it help if I tried to rewrite this, with more information on what sort of stats you need, what you should be doing, damage etc? -- Noise 666 12:41, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

You're welcome to. I moved this to the forums, since it wasn't appropriate in the main namespace since it was not declared by the author to be a user guide. If you'd like to rewrite/update it and make it a user guide we can always move it back into the main namespace then. -- lordebon 14:49, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Well, my guide would be a complete rewrite -- Noise 666 18:10, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Go for it, but let's keep the Discussion part of this page please -- ChillispikeSig ( Talk ) 18:13, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Well, I've started to write my guide, I've decided to make it a general guide, based on everything I know, and can scrounge from people like Damager. If you have anything to add, could you stick it in my talk page, and if you know how to make something a user guide, that would be great.-- Noise 666 18:45, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

I've added the guide you started to the class guides that have begun to be developed. I've also added a Work In Progress tag to the top of it. Keep in mind that this tag can get removed if there is too much delay between your edits. But it should cover you for a little while. Welcome aboard!-- Kodia 19:05, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
