Is there any gear that you can get that does not require raiding that doesn't make pick up groups laugh at you? Been 3 boxing my mains to level 80 (nearly there) and decided to do a pick up group with my tank. I was laughed at...I mean everything I had on was ledgendary or mastercrafted with adornments and the seconday healer asked me "Don't you have any better gear?" Like I would put it in the bank and just take out the junk I had on for pick up groups. We were doing well in the zone and he he left the group saying we couldn't do (some named in Sep)with such a geared tank. Obviously this guy was from a high end raiding guild (and thus a snob) so I put him on my ignore list but I took his comments to heart and did some looking and found only a few items that I could obtain without raiding that the big guns use. Namely my charm items, my food and drink and my quiver. Everything else that was considerbly better then what I had on was raid obtainable only...or am I missing something? This is a long way of asking "Is there any questable, buyable or makeable gear out there that doesn't require a raid that is considered upper?" I am still doing quests in JW but I haven't found anything there yet either... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joejoemay ( talk • contribs )
- Typically Mastercrafted gear is inferior to quite a bit out there. And I'm not talking raid gear -- there is a massive amount of equipment available, some from quests, some from collections, and some from drops in heroic instances. Mind you, just because you found only a few pieces that raiders use that isn't raided doesn't mean that there is a middle ground. In fact, there is a huge middle ground between Mastercrafted and Raid gear. Mastercrafted is typically going to be the best you can find in terms of makeable, but there is a good bit of legendary attunable gear out there that is better than Mastercrafted.
- Keep at it. Of course you're not going to have the best gear, and yes you're going to run into people in PUGs that dislike you for it since you're the tank. But there is some very nice gear in those instances, and the only way to get it is to keep running them. If people bug you about it, make sure they know that you're new to L80 and thus haven't had the opportunity to get a great deal of good gear. People tend to have highest expectations from the tank, and place higher importance on the tank's gear. Thus sometimes tanks need a thick skin -- but I still agree with you that a person just leaving the group because they think you won't be able to handle suchandsuch mob isn't cool.
- And in case you're wondering, yes I am in a 'high end raiding guild.' Not everyone in such guilds are 'snobs' or bad apples like that; it's just the select ones that make the stereotype. And even raid gear is not the end-all-be-all: some instance-dropped items are superior than even what you might get on a raid. In terms of actually finding good gear, try asking in the server or worldwide channels for your class. Most of the worldwides are based on Guk, i.e. for Wardens the WW channel is Guk.Warden. The folks in those channels should be knowledgeable about what good gear is available where for your class. -- Lordebon 20:29, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, my brother in law told me I needed some thicker skin when it came to that too...just getting the gear I got took a lot of effort so I was a little miffed. I'll keep at it...79th LVL Newbie Tank LFG!!
