The subclass equipment categories aren't that helpfull all the time it feels like, of course it helps to find a item that starts with a specific letter but it does help when you want to look for equipment of a specific tier.
So i would like to come up with the follow suggestion:

• Subclass equipment categories should be hidden categories (Since we want to keep those for sure)
• Instead of saying the equipment is for subclass change it to subclass tier equipment (with class equipment as next higher category)

Example:

• Robe of Spectral Coercion
  • currently: Category:Tier 9 Equipment and Category:Coercer Equipment
  • With suggested change: Category:Tier 9 Equipment , Category:Coercer Equipment (-> hidden cat) and Category:Coercer Tier 9 Equipment

(24 classes * 9 tiers = 216 additional categories atm)
I think this in that way it would be easier to find the equipment of a specific tier, so you could look at equipment that can be used by a class at a new tier for example.
any thoughts on that?

My honest opinion is this: Trash Category:Tier 9 Equipment and Category:Coercer Equipment . They're useless. Who is going to go looking through categories of all equipment for a class or tier that is just organized alphabetically? No one sane. Category:Coercer Tier 9 Equipment would at least match a level range (80-89) but even then I don't consider it useful. For any 'reform' or change to be useful it needs to reduce the number of categories spammed across the bottom of equipment pages. It's a fact inherent to the way wiki categories work that there is no real useful organization that can be done without taking categories out to shear ridiculousness.

With that rant aside... my recommendation is this: Go with Category:Tier N Class Equipment as the categories on the page. Meaning that robe would have Category:Tier 9 Coercer Equipment . Then, Category:Tier 9 Equipment would not be applied to items directly, but would include all 24 classes' (Category:Tier 9 Class Equipment) categories. Category:Coercer Equipment would not be on the item either, it would include all (Category:Tier N Coercer Equipment) categories instead. Those would then be included into (Equipment by Class and Tier) (and Equipment by Class) categories, respectively. Those two categories would be under (Category:Equipment) which would be the top-level category for Equipment. The benefit of this naming scheme would be removing a net 2 categories from the bottom while still having their purpose served by the new category. going forward, maybe it would be even more helpful to add slot to the category, like Category:Tier 9 Coercer Chest Equipment . or going even further you could add rarity as well. although in the end it might look rather long and silly, those would be the cats people would really look for. -- Vraeth 17:08, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

I would advise against trashing the categories we have right now, personally. I know that there are people who look things up alphabetically just because they've heard of of a piece of equipment from somewhere. There's a place for both.-- Kodia 19:17, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
