Hello!
I've recently been adding information regarding the Plundered furniture article. Today I added images to a grimberry bush, maroon tapestry, torn tapestry, and ykeshan wraithguard. First, I want to make sure I did it right before I continue with any other items! (I'm not sure if image naming should be done in a certain way, for one thing.)
Second - those items already had linked pages from the original article, they were only empty. So I just edited the created page to include the item template found with the other items and the screenshots I had taken.
I also have screenshots of the "badly burned notes on tapestry weaving" and also the "crimson fire tapestry" created from that recipe. But that item isn't listed as a link, and I'm not sure how to create it from scratch. Any help would be appreciated, and I hope I haven't done anything incorrectly thus far! Thanks! Edited to add that I see you've fixed those items in the proper format, thank you! I now see how you arranged the pages and will start putting the images in the proper place of the item format. :) Keliae 04:52, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Greetings and welcome. The first rule above all is "Don't panic!" ... :) We love information and any information is better than no information. Our naming conventions are pretty straight forward. The general rule being "whatever it's called in game." Take a look at that link and you should get an idea of what's necessary.
- Thankyou for the images of the plundered furniture. I've gone through and placed the links to those images inside the templates that we used for each of those articles but please don't think you did anything wrong by placing them where you placed them. Again, we would rather have some information than no information, so your images were a great improvement.
- Thankyou for creating the pages you did. You did a great job for your first try. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the Admins and we'll see what we can do to hep you along. -- Kodia 04:53, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Kodia! I have experience with HTML and such so once I figure out the templates it's not too bad! My only question left about naming is this... Take the item "a grimberry bush" for example. Should that image have been named agrimberrybush.jpg or a_grimberry_bush.jpg, or does that matter? Also, how should I differentiate between the actual in-game examine window and the picture of the item itself? I used GrimberryBush and GrimberryBushExamine to tell the difference between the two, is there a better/preferred way? I didn't see that mentioned in the naming policy page.
Okay I lied, I have one more question - Those pages were already created and I just edited them. For future new additions, should caps matter in article titles (A Grimberry Bush vs. a grimberry bush)? Keliae 05:13, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Let me try and answer these in order. First off, HTML doesn't *quite* help you out here. It's useful for *some* things but they're rare. Go ahead and use it if it helps you, but know that the pages you're working on will likely get edited to replace the HTML with wiki markup. That's okay! That's what wikis are all about. We have a cheatsheet to help you out with the most common of the wiki markup stuff most people need if you're interested. I suspect the basic formatting page will also be useful to you as well. And of course the Help pages in general should provide you with loads of reading fun. :)

Any time you see a template with the line
iname=|
oriname2=|
those stand for "image name" (I don't want to overload you with info here but each template has documentation for the most part that describes each of these fields). The graphics file you uploaded can be named either way you mentioned but if you match the name exactly to the name of the article (that is, "a grimberry bush.jpg"), the templates we use will automatically look for the graphics file and will try to "smart link" the picture if you forget to add the link inside the template those fields. Now, when there's an examine window and an item that can be worn or placed somewhere, we do indeed try to differentiate. Your method works just fine. Although not a rule, we try to name the examine files to match the article name (that is, "a grimberry bush.jpg", which would go in the "iname" field) and the visible one gets tagged with something that states it's visible or placed (so, "a grimberry bush (visible).jpg", which would go in the iname2 field).
- Now, for capitalization, match the game exactly using the naming conventions . For an item that's examined, match the text on the examine window. So, the article would be created as "a grimberry bush" but know that the system will automatically make it "A grimberry bush" with an initial capital. This is a system thing, not a thing we do and we can't get around it. Also, keep in mind that SoE isn't all that careful about things matching. For example, when you zone into Moors of Ykesha , the zone name appears exactly as "Moors of Ykesha" when it flashes on the screen. If you look in your quest journal, however, the zone appears as "The Moors of Ykesha". And if you look at the zone identifier under your your compass (if you have that on your UI), it may read "The" or not, depending. Each thing, place, or monster in game has a specific way it's named and our naming conventions should address the vast majority of them BUT....if you don't know, create it anyway, flag it (use the flags I suggested in your welcome message on your talk page , or just leave a message on an admin page and we'll come try to help. (For that matter, there are a few users who will likely beat us to it and be happy to help you out as well.)
- Keep the questions coming. We'll do our best to answer them in a timely fashion.-- Kodia 13:49, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
