So apparently there are rumours abound in EQ2 on the bazaar server that wikia has a keylogger program installing from visiting the site.
Personally, I think it is bollocks.
If the hosts would kindly put to rest these rumours, either through verification and action taken, or through denial and proof, we would all be infinitely grateful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beejork ( talk • contribs )
- You are correct, it is BS. EQ2i / Wikia does not use keyloggers. If you ever get a prompt asking to install something from EQ2i/Wikia then it is a malicious advertisement and you should not download or install it . What some people may have seen was a malicious advertisement, one either trying to install a keylogger or a fake AV that is claiming you have a keylogger.
- Malicious advertisements are targeted at many gaming sites, and we at EQ2i have no direct control over the advertisements. Any that are malicious are found pretty quickly and can be reported by following the information on Wikia Help . I for one have never seen a keylogger in an advertisement. However, bad ads do happen to good sites, and the best way you and the people on the Bazaar can limit exposure to them is very simple: create an account and log in. By doing that you remove all the ads except on the main page.
- If you or anyone else on the Bazaar has any questions, feel free to ask them here or even ask me personally in-game (I'm Barx on Antonia Bayle). I've been using and contributing to EQ2i since back before it was even hosted at wikia and I've never had any issues. I've seen a bad ad or two, but they're few and far between and wikia is pretty quick about nuking them when you tell them they're there. -- lordebon 13:01, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
