Using a pet with high hit points (Mage pet Earthen Avatar works well) to pull Mucus back to the bridge after killing the roamers has been successful, just use full burn and make sure that the tank taunts off of mage pet as it brings in Mucus.

An alternate pulling method is to have the tank very carefully body pull the Mucus when the wandering mini-oozes have drifted away from him a safe distance. No matter how you pull him, don't try to fight him near the pool -- the small oozes spawn almost constantly and will add in en masse.
