Once he meets you there speak with him again and he will go through the gate to open it. If you can not open the gate have another player try. I did notice that the character I used to speak with him was not able to open the gate but another player in group could. **Update** There's a key you must loot from the chest that opens the gate from the first name. I was able to get the key off of him even when he was grayed out...it was a body drop.
