Right, so... EQ2 already had a race called "ettin". Those smallish giants that look like their flesh is melting. They first appeared in Shattered Lands in the Feerott (
An Evol conscript
), and were first called ettins in EoF (
A Slagslore ettin
). They first started being called "throm" in RoK (
a mountain throm gatherer
).
DoV came out and introduced a new 2-headed-giant race, also called "ettin".
I used to figure out whether races were supposed to be the same or not based on their vendor trash drops, but as of DoV things don't drop vendor trash anymore, they just drop coin, so that doesn't work anymore. Also, the new 2 headed giants don't have a racial drop table.
Dungeons and Dragons defined ettins as 2 headed giant-like creatures, and I can't find any use of the word "throm" to describe monsters outside of EQ2.
Anyway, since I'm sure the races aren't supposed to be the same or even related, I'd like to propose renaming the melty looking ones to Category:Throm and make Category:Ettin for the 2 headed giants from DoV. McJeff (talk this way) / (stalk this way) 21:01, March 18, 2011 (UTC)
- Ettin as the race for both seems appropriate (and as Vraeth points out, seems to be what SOE considers them). They're vastly different types but race is kind of a generic categorization in EQ2. And as you can see by Zam's database-driven race data, SOE makes rather a mess out of it... they generally have multiple race definitions. -- lordebon 21:54, March 18, 2011 (UTC)
