Blog Post
Edit
Hehe... I see you responded to my blog post from November. I was traveling during November and late December and the goblins were eating my technology at that time. Last week I was required to travel (once again) to a remote area of our country that seems to be stuck in the 1980's from a technological perspective.
In fact, playing EQ2 from here seems to be the equivalent of dial-up. On extreme performance I'm lucky to get 6-8 FPS. That's why I had that flurry of activity a few weeks back.
Geez! It just took about 25 seconds to do a "preview" of this post! Crossing fingers... and posting!
Welcome to the Wiki and thank you for taking the time to help build it! Your work is greatly appreciated!

- Holy mother of EeeeeRRRRaHHHHChhhhhhtttttttAAAAArrr (<--my dial up impression)! I hadn't noticed the date on your blog post. I just realized that I had (have) the potential to make one on my own page and went exploring to see if it was more of an official dev blog thing over here (I'd seen RadarX's in passing) and happened upon yours. Woo, I can relate to both the technology goblins AND the 80s technology. My own parents live on a rather remote street with a total of 4 neighbors--in a honest to goodness village. Cable and DSL finally came to their street 6 or 7 years ago. Leaving civilization to visit them prior to that meant dial up. In the 21st Century. Dial up. Oh good gods! So, I feel your sloooow technology pain in your travels. May you rejoin the present again soon. ;)
-
- Oh--I did catch that you edited a typo I had here, though my brain was as slow as your connection at the time, so I didn't respond to your note. By all means, fix my typos! I suspect I am mildly dyslexic and I don't always catch them even when I proofread the heck out of things. In fact, the running joke nickname my guild has given me is "Our Lady of Tyops" (with the intentional typo) because the chat UI causes them to happen at an alarming rate. I think of it as an accent.
-
- Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm glad to be here and lend a hand. My participation will probably be highly focused on tradeskills and decor topics. With Landmark on the horizon, I have a bit of concern that the external blogs/websites that have been the primary source for that info may dry up or fall behind. Being the sort of nerd I am, I had a bit of a tour to see what other regulars here like to work on and I dig your edits and contributions. It's funny, but you get a sense of each person's personal style and pet projects just by looking at the Recent Updates. Yasuewho ( talk ) 18:49, February 9, 2014 (UTC)Yasuewho
- ROTFLMAO!!! Not literally, but it did make me more than LOL! Unfortunately, this is DSL. It's about 20-25 miles from the substation and who knows how many *boxes* it goes through before it gets here. When people talk about "back to nature", this is the place they're talking about! Which means it's a 40-50 mile round trip to get a loaf of bread. Even so, it's quiet, peaceful and the sky is so clear at night, you can see a billion stars...
- It's great to have another able body here! Lordebon and Chillispike are absolutely awesome in their knowledge of how things work. I'm sure they're tired of hearing my questions and explaining things to me. LOL, every time I ask a question I can just imagine their eyes rolling back into their heads. Even so, they've been so helpful. I'm really glad they have such a kind demeanor.
- McJeff has been a fantastic mentor to me. He seems to know just about everything there is to know about how this all ties together. He's very humble but it's only because HE doesn't realize how awesome he is!

The "
looselose" edit was just a kind-hearted poke and I'm so glad you realized that. By all means, please repair mine when you find them! I'm with you on the *word choices* front. There's (theirs, they're) a huge difference in the meaning of a sentence depending on the exact word chosen. I didn't realize it before, but I guess I'm a member of the Tyops fraternity too. Thanks for giving it aanmename!( Talk ) 20:21, February 9, 2014 (UTC)

- I didn't figure you were on actual dial-up, but when your connection is more like a slide show on Photobucket, it may as well be, eh? Bad news: It's less like a Tyops fraternity and more like Sigma Tau Delta, Tyops Chapter . There's no beer and Animal House-style mayhem, more coffee or tea with nerdy studiousness and offers to proofread; less chanting about togas and more chanting about what should and shouldn't be in [ "The Canon" ] of Western literature. ;) I say this because most of the English majors in Sigma Tau Delta seemed to have tyop problems that drove them to be better readers with vast language acquisition...probably because they're the types to look up correct spelling. (Well, Phi Beta Kappa at the Uni I went to was for people within the English Department with a GPA over 3.5 anyway. We were word nerds!)

Naturally I can't speak for them, but I suspect that the admins here are probably fine with questions and helping people earn their "wikilegs" (like seas legs, ha!) as long as it isn't trolling. Not only are we gamers of an extra nerdy flavor (MMORPGs FTW!), but taking time out of the game to work on a wiki about it is kind of the next level of gamer nerdy. I posit the following formulas:
- Having people contribute = good.
- Having people who want to contribute well = better.

Re:Category links
Edit
Heya Yasuewho. If you want to link to a category instead of adding a category, just use a colon before the word 'category'. For example if I wanted to link the word "beds" to Category:Bed (Item Subtype), it'd look like this.
[[:Category:Bed (Item Subtype)|beds]]
And you'd get
beds
By the way, this works for images too, if you want to link to an image instead of embed it.
Hope this answers your question! If not, let me know and I'll try again. Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 07:43, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Standard Housing
Edit
Hi Yasuewho!
Just a quick note to say that the work you're doing on the Standard Housing article is very impressive! I especially like the screenshots of the different types of customizations you recently added. In addition to being an excellent writer, I'd say you have one heck of a photographic eye!
Keep up the good work!

- Thanks, Pace! Travel updates are taking forever and I needed to look at/think about something else for awhile. The Standard Housing page is something we've needed for a very long time, IMHO. Some of those details are scattered all over the wikia under the addresses, but I don't recall ever stumbling across the Freeport/Qeynos customization options (with screenshots). We didn't have one easy page to look at all of the city's general styles side-by-side on one page either. The external site that explained it pretty well with lots of images hasn't been updated in ages (2008, maybe?) and, though I like a lot of the Prestige Housing , the Standard Housing is accessible to all players because of the in-game currency it's purchased with. It's also easy for most people to find by chance while wandering cities, but the customization options in FP and Qey aren't obvious (to most people) unless you know they're there.
- I wanted to break the Standard and Prestige housing into their own pages when I first updated the general Housing page (in a huge way) "a couple three" years go. It's why I joined the wikia back then. Housing has gotten so complex since launch and the community is so huge, it needs some love here! As for the screenshots...that's partially the type of tech writing I studied; images are often the backbone of making a document digital or otherwise, because writing for an audience that may have English as a second (or 3rd, etc.) language is always the goal in the era in which we have this "series of tubes" some call the Internet. :D
- As for the "eye", in my early 20s I came dangerously close to getting a degree in fine arts, but didn't want to sell my soul to advertising---that's where most of my art-nerd friends ended up. ;) Now I can hoard all of my art making for pleasure instead. *insert late 1950s, sci-fi, B movie, doctor/professor, maniacal laughter here* Now I just need a black and white poster movie poster for The Eye. Hmm. Sounds like an art project. Yasuewho ( talk ) 16:33, March 7, 2014 (UTC)Yasuewho

- PS - Yesterday was EXCRUCIATING at 2 FPS. I hope today's better! Ooops! BTW, It seems like everyone I've met using the moniker "Paceyourself" has always gravitated to the shortened "Pace". I always chuckle because it makes me think of Pace's Picante sauce. Good Stuff
Housing Achievements
Edit
I read your note about the housing achievements and the entire achievement organization could use updating and sorting. I made a template for the housing achievement line and it could probably use a little bit of tweaking but if you want to add the other housing achievements in the line you should be able too. The template tweaks will automatically update all the pages as needed. I already added the first achievement Hall of Famer . If you need any help let me know :) Jado818 ( talk ) 14:49, March 19, 2014 (UTC)
-
- I don't mind filling them in, I'll get around to it some time in the next day or so. I just was uncertain if you wanted to make the pages or not. The achievement lines in all of the achievement categories need a lot of stuff added (especially the raid achievements). I've just been working on other stuff and adding a few achievements here or there. Maybe when the Icons are all sorted and categorized (or Lordebon finishes the new Icon - Item API linking) I can give achievements a more in depth look. Jado818 ( talk ) 15:32, March 19, 2014 (UTC)
Housing Category
Edit
The housing category has been moved too Category:Housing with Upkeep Costs .
I made a few suggestions for an organization scheme and subcategory naming on the talk page Category talk:Housing with Upkeep Costs#Category Name . Feel free to use or modify how you want :) Jado818 ( talk ) 14:16, March 20, 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Jado, I appreciate your hand/and feedback very much. :) I missed this post (it's spring an RL dog aggro is at an all time high, now that The Squirrel War has resumed) but I did reply there. I'm working my way through a few things that cross over between the Standard Housing, Prestige Housing...heck a bunch of housing pages and then I'm going to head back and do what I can to switch around a few categories that seem to work well for all who've made suggestions and change the category tags to suit everything that's way out of date. OMG - Housing
Edit
Hi Yasuewho!
I've just spent about an hour and a half reading the Housing talk page and now have a much greater understanding of your edit summaries. ROFL!!! Do you even have any hair left? I know I've lost a few strands just reading and following the complexity of that task. I can see where it's become extensive and overbroad. There's just too much there!
I like Lordebon's suggestion as it seems much cleaner. Maybe starting out with broad and general strokes and moving into more detail as you get closer to the actual houses. I like the tables in your sandbox and think they'd make a great addition to the more detailed categories.
You've solicited feedback from an EQ2 9+ year veteran that owns a few Prestige homes just for storage. In fact, if you wanted to start a "Hoarders of Norrath" home show, I'd probably be in the top 10. It appears that the articles are geared more toward decorating which is not something I've ever been interested in. I would be very interested in homes by type, location, alignment and upkeep. I know there are a ton of other players like me that would like a simpler categorization as Lordebon suggests and then you could create a separate section that concentrates solely on decorating. That may help whittle down the complexity a bit?
As far as my obsession with gear articles, there's no comparison with housing. Housing (and travel) can become so gangly and never ending because they're so complex. Equipment, on the other hand, is finite in it's scope. There is an absolute start and an absolute end to any given piece of equipment, even the armor sets (notwithstanding SOE changes) . Not so with housing and travel. There are just too many nuances and "but, if's" to contend with. On gear, it's "+42 str" without any additional supposition.
I don't think that's much help but it's my 26.52 centavos worth
(at current exchange rates)

- HA! What you may not know about me...I geek out over the sort of craz...err complex tasks I've been working on. I geek out on it a lot! Complex, detailed info and images? Yes, please! My massive info there was to make my point that the old way favored decorating nuts (like me) primarily, who wanted a room count (which as you read) really doesn't matter a lick with the new Housing & Leaderbaords size conventions. Well, that and a dozen other reasons wrapped up in the house-as-pretty-making space/sales/storage approach. My image example is about the ideal in my book, with very few subcategories-and the image shows the exact things that you just said matter to you in that "flow chart" image I made. ;)
-
- I'm glad you're vet with that many years (and figured as much) and that you'll probably like that I am writing the new stuff with the "powa" of houses as a place to SELL SELL SELL! (as a tradekill nut) and for hoarders to store items (not only house items, but precious gear that a hoarder feels compelled to keep in a house vault). While I've certainly been cleaning up/updating based on the decor crowds needs where it's well suited, the reason I created a few of the recent pages like Housing & Leaderboards is for it's travel benefits that are often overlooked by new/old players because they aren't totally apparent...and it's connection to the bestest house item a hoarder could ever have, House Portals --I even explained how to use the latter to create a travel hub/warehouse. Buahaha! They will join us and hoard.
-
- Funny you mention hoarding in general. I have a warehouse for every seasonal event (Frostfell, etc.), every city fest has its own, one just for rare/looted items, and MORE (17 to be exact). I'd be in the top five and even funnier I have been kicking around the idea of starting a blog or website called EQ2 Hoarder for a few weeks, no kidding about that website idea. I figure it needs to be house items AND gear, so you may want to visit it often if I do!
-
- Thanks for your input/insight and the time and effort (and pain and suffering) reading it all took. IMHO it's always good to get perspectives from people who may not approach info in the exact same ways. It makes it more user-friendly in the end, which is the goal of any information tech writer. - Aww! Thanks, though I don't know how back I am yet (here). Holy moly. The wikia for Landmark is either a) nekkid b) horribly inaccurate, due to changes that no one has bothered with much since the shift from Alpha to Closed Beta. Say, I might have an extra buddy key floating around if you're interested. If so, use the app from Can I Run It to see if you meet the specs. Warnings: I'd say it's more like Alpha 2.0 at this point in time and it's far from optimized.
