Welcome to EQ2i!

Welcome to EQ2i

Hello and welcome to EQ2i ! Thank you for [[Special:Contributions/{{subst:PAGENAME}}|your contributions]], especially your recent edits to the File:Ritualist Tenderhoof.png page. We hope you decide to stay. Please edit to your heart's content and don't worry overmuch about using templates or "getting it right." If you're unsure of how to use any of our templates at the site, don't panic! Just start a new article and place {{wikify}} at the top of the page. Another editor will take care of the rest. Here is some general information you might find useful:

And here are some very basic editing tips:

  • If you need something deleted, place {{delete|the reason here}} on the top of the page.
  • If you see something where you know the name is not right, use the "move" link to change the name of the page.
  • If you find a page name that you are unsure if it has the correct name, place {{CapCheck|suggested correct spelling}} on the top of the page.
  • For information that you would like others to verify in-game use {{FactCheck|what you need checked}} .
  • And if all else fails and you're just not sure what to do, place {{Admin Needed|the reason here}} on the top of the page. There is also the "Report Problems" link that should appear on all pages; it is a help-ticket system that all wikia.com wikis are using.

If you need any additional help, just drop by my talk page or any of the admin's talk pages. We'd be glad to help.

Re: Edit

Sure thing. Before I do that though, I'd just like to say it's great to have someone working on the new content!

When you're making monster articles, try to name them as close to the actual in-game name as possible, including capitalization. The wiki automatically capitalizes the first letter in any article, but other than that, try to make it match exactly. And when you upload a monster image, upload it to the exact same name that the article is and it'll display automatically. That'll save you the work of having to manually fill out the iname and idesc fields too.

As far as images go, yours look great so far. Something that I've found helpful - you don't have to do this but you might want to - is there's a way to set the game options so monsters don't glow if you roll the mouse cursor over them. Then you can make their names appear by putting the cursor over them without having them get discolored. It's useful for really big monsters, or super-aggressive ones that see inviz.

Other than that everything you've done looks just fine so far. Feel free to ask me for help any time. Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 22:45, October 8, 2013 (UTC)

just realized I forgot the most important thing.
Don't stress out over whether you're doing something perfectly or not! There's a learning curve, especially with all the templates in use here, and plenty of people around to help out and fix things. A monster article at a name that isn't 100% perfect only needs a page rename - a monster article that doesn't get written at all isn't useful to anyone, right? Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 22:47, October 8, 2013 (UTC)
To get rid of the glow
  1. Go to Options --> User Interface and be sure you've clicked the 'Advanced' button at the upper righthand of the options window
  2. Select Target Highlight
  3. Make sure that 'Highlight Type' is set to Glow, then move to 'Character Mouse Over Glow' and move the slider to None.
You can also get rid of the targeting circle and arrow if you want to from that same set of options if you want. Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 04:40, October 10, 2013 (UTC)
No way to communicate privately unfortunately, but what's your question? Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 18:19, October 10, 2013 (UTC)

Bosses and user rights Edit

I'm not a boss. I've been around for a while and I'm pretty experienced, but I don't have any authority. And I've made spelling mistakes before - for example, here where I spelled Field Marshal Vishra's name wrong and someone else caught the error.

Technically I'm a 'rollbacker', which is a little more advanced than a standard user but not enough so to make me a boss. Standard users can move pages, rollbackers can move images, and it takes a full administrator to delete a page or image or block a misbehaving user.

The actual bosses are listed at Admins .

As far as K'val Ruins goes, you can actually move that page yourself if you want to do the honors (since you're the one that found the error and all). Jeff ( talk | stalk ) 18:59, October 10, 2013 (UTC)

Heya. Icons are complicated - in fact they're such a pain in the butt to deal with that a lot of editors just don't bother trying to do them. They're supposed to be 42x42 pixels - that means it has the entire frame but nothing outside the frame, and yeah you're supposed to look through the list of icons and find the right name. Like I said though, as long as the articles are getting written it's not too big a deal. There's also the copyright aspect, where you're supposed to add {{ss|-}} to them when you're uploading them because otherwise they're copyright violations, and then you have to add the right categories to them so that they show on the list of icons - so like I said yeah icons can be hard to deal with.
So if I were you I just wouldn't worry about the icons at all. I've been doing them long enough that it's easy for me and I'll probably be by to fix them. As long as you upload the equipment examine window it's usually going to be super-easy for me to add the right icon, and also the icon's the least important part of any equipment page. Probably less than half of our equipment pages have icons. So you know, don't stress out over them and make editing a chore.
For "bluestats" there's two places to look. If you start a new equipment page, there'll be a box with a list of a lot of the commonly used bluestats. If you don't see the one you're looking for there, you can get the full and complete list of them at Template:EquipInformation . On rare occasions SOE will add a new stat, and if you catch one of those, the person to talk to is either User:Chillispike or User:Lordebon , they do most of the template tinkering. 60 Days Edit

grats dude! Dedicated Awarded for contributing to the wiki every day for 60 days! earned by Paceyourself 5 hours ago

60 days, that's insane :) oh well, I got to over 40 at one point in time, but then missed one update by an hour or so... needless to say, I dont wanna try this again. besides, I am scared the next task is 120 days :) lol

by the way, i have to warn you also - the most active people on a wiki tend to be sticklers, the bureaucratic type, and people with various mental problems, so you better not reach the top-3 spot, then you might still be save side.

ok, now lets see if this comment gets me banned again for 1 month... Admins like to do that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rittmeister64 ( talk contribs ) 09:51, November 20, 2013‎ (UTC)

Please ignore the user above. We appreciate all legitimate contributions. Users that wish to do nothing but troll will always find a cool reception however. You won't have to worry about this particular user now. Sorry for the bother. -- lordebon ( talk ) 17:08, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

Armor Sets Edit

The way you have the armor set effect on Repaired Girdle of the Terranai is correct; currently the template is set up to list the effects further down in the armor set rather than up above where it is in-game. It might be something we can change to make it look more like in-game, but that'd be done template-side; for now you're doing it perfectly correct. Cheers! -- lordebon ( talk ) 20:59, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment! I've been working on the equipment redlinks and now have a better understanding of why they're redlinked. It seems that the majority of them are pretty complex or create additional redlinks. You'll probably see more {{Admin Needed|Because I'm metagrobolized...}} as I move forward... Sandbox Edit

Good idea on making a sand box. I didn't really expect many people to leave messages on my profile page but it is starting to seem cluttered so I took your advice and make a sandbox page. Jado818 ( talk ) 15:11, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

I must have been a messy kid because mine's just FULL of junk... I wish you much success and hope you enjoy playing around in there! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 15:24, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

Even MORE Useful Links Edit

Heya, Pace. (I assume we are on a partial-name basis by now ;) ) We must be on a similar wavelength. I happened to see you made an edit on your user page for useful links right after I absconded with this bunch from Chillspike. It's like a spidey sense, perhaps?

  • Technically, I did not abscond with it, but it's a rare day when one can allege that they have absconded with anything. I just copied and pasted it on my own talk page and thought you might like it too, so I decided to paste it here as well. Feel free to move it or delete it if you'd like. Technically they are more though, since it's more than you had before. Yasuewho ( talk ) 13:37, March 8, 2014 (UTC)Yasuewho

Feedback, if you have time/energy/patience Edit

Mind giving some feedback? You seem fairly obsessed...err interested in...uploading a great number of images/creating pages for gear categories in tandem (I think that's you, but it is almost 3am where I am,). I recently failed ( gasp! ) at correctly making a new category page related to housing and found myself explaining why I think change is long overdue. I'll warn you that my description of why is very detailed, very long, and may be boring unless you're feeling extra information-nerdy. If you're up for it or have any ideas, comment there or on my talk page. Here's the link, for the not-faint-of-heart . Yasuewho ( talk ) 08:05, March 20, 2014 (UTC)Yasuewho

Iconnum, the SoE feed, and stuff Edit

Heya Paceyourself. Thought I might ask you some advice for a change.

Alright, so, that link you left on my talkpage for finding the iconnumber from the SOE feed? Works fine when the itemnumber doesn't start with a minus. When it does, though, well, using \aITEM -1514320802 1399573380 0 0 0:Cryptic Unlucky Spaulders of Luck\/a for an example, I get this . And that's how it always is. No minus sign, works great, minus sign, doesn't work. Do you know how fix this? Jeff ( talk · stalk ) 13:28, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

It looks like census might not be able to handle negative item ids, so for it's purpose they seem to have assigned them a different id # (in this case, the item you linked above . The way to go in this case right now is just to use a search query, in this case http://census.soe.com/s:eq2i/json/get/eq2/item/?displayname=Cryptic%20Unlucky%20Spaulders%20of%20Luck&c:limit=20&c:hide=_extended brings up the information for all of those with that name; you can use the description for which one is which in terms of # of gems. It might be possible to search by the gamelink instead, but that doens't seem to want to work for me currently. -- lordebon ( talk ) 15:16, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

Nice to meet you. After reading your message about my icons I started reading your talk page as was pleasantly surprised to find a way to use the SOE data feed to generate a large portion of icons. I will be using that method as much as possible from now on.

If you have any other suggestions please let me know!

your Comment line Edit

Hiya, i saw your comment line in the past .. since it's just a comment line it didn't brother me much, till i saw Wormhole Generator: Obol Plains and that the image linking isn't working 100% correct.
the reason is that your comment line is wrong, it currently says:
<-- See " http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/User:Paceyourself/Sandbox2 " for parameters -->
but it should be:

either change it or stop useing it, please. it still doesn't brother me much if it's in the article, but when it's "bugged" it hard for others to find out what they are doing wrong, even they did it right but the comment line is "bugged"
-- ChillispikeSig ( Talk ) 08:16, August 7, 2014 (UTC)

since you used it quite regular i might let my bot sort it and remove your comment line to have it cleared up and to avoid further troubles coz of it. :/ What do you think? -- ChillispikeSig ( Talk ) 08:22, August 7, 2014 (UTC)
Hi Chilli!
Ooops! Sorry! I didn't even notice the missing "!". I put that comment in there in response to this forum post concerning extra parameters. I have my own "customized" template that includes a majority of the parameters, but no comments as to what they mean. I've used this template long enough that there are many articles I've created with a myriad of unused parameters - but no comment descriptions.
Please do create a bot to remove, replace (or whatever you deem appropriate) to that line.
The only thing I would request is that you consider incorporating these equipment parameter descriptions into the Call Example section of this template . When I first started I used that template constantly and found it confusing that there were no descriptions for the parameters. That's why I created my sandbox version and noted it (incorrectly) in the articles. Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 14:26, August 7, 2014 (UTC)
considering it's your sandbox it's not 100% optimal to link to yours in the comment line, and since Template:EquipInformation#Parameters has a "master" write up of the template i will run the bot with
replace
<-- See " http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/User:Paceyourself/Sandbox2 " for parameters -->
with
Chillibot will run at some point next week over all articles where you contributed so i'm sure that i didn't missed any.
-- ChillispikeSig ( Talk ) 14:36, August 7, 2014 (UTC)
OMG!!! I am literally LMFAO! I think that would be the absolute best solution! How naive of me to think that there wasn't a master list somewhere! (I still can't quit laughing)... I wish I had known about that earlier! Your Oracle skills are unmatched in both Norrath and our own universe!
I just realized why I missed the master list... I scrolled down to the "Changes" section and never went any further. I figured it was like every other "Changelog" I've looked at over the years and thought there was no useful information past it.
Thanks so much for your guidance and the best laugh I've had in awhile. It was much needed! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 14:54, August 7, 2014 (UTC)

233 articles corrected, just running bot a second time to be sure that i didn't miss one -- ChillispikeSig ( Talk )

Chilli, I am SO sorry for that! Thank you so much for fixing it! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 14:24, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

Oops, Sorry! Edit

Cloth Armor of Greater Skyshrine (Armor Set) can now be worn by all classes, not just mages. Wasn't sure how to show that other than removing the Mage indicator. Thank you for your help! Suganchu ( talk )

Thanks for the information, i fixed it :) -- ChillispikeSig ( Talk ) 12:38, August 29, 2014 (UTC)
@Suganchu - Just out of curiosity... Where did you find information that indicates this armor set is wearable by all classes? The only cloth armor that I've found that's equippable by all classes is *appearance only* (i.e. no stats) and clearly indicates that it's worn by all classes. From my experience you must hard code the class on cloth armor or it just goes into limbo and never shows up under any class (which makes it pointless to add). Thanks in advance for your feedback! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 14:34, August 29, 2014 (UTC)
@Suganchu - Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Without your post I would have continued in my ignorance. I went looking and I found authoritative guidance - [1] and confirmation from GM Terminus at SOE.
Greetings Paceyourself!
I understand you have some questions on Cloth Armor. It looks like all classes are able to use Cloth Armor. However it can be more beneficial to certain classes more than others. Such as:
Coercer
Illusionist
Conjuror
Necromancer
Warlock
Wizard
Should you have any future questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Sincerely,
GM Terminus Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 16:37, September 1, 2014 (UTC)
@Paceyourself - Thanks for double-checking! I've always taken it for granted (in EQ games; I know other games are stricter) that classes able to use heavier armor are inclusive to all lighter armor, unless it's marked as class-specific. So that's why I was confused. But just to clarify, that also applies to chain & leather. Eg., plate-wearers can wear ALL types, while chainmail-wearers can wear chain and everything lighter. Unless a piece lists specific classes, it follows that hierarchy. This doesn't matter much for actual gear since they'll want the higher mitigation their intended armor offers anyway, but for fashion purposes it's a whole different story. For instance, that Skyshrine cloth armor set is one of the few lootable "formal ensemble" styles that isn't Mage-only or Bruiser/Monk-only, plus it has a rather unique texture. It's the sort of thing I'd go out of my way to find for my Shadowknight to use as town/roleplay appearance gear. /geek. Suganchu ( talk )
Some time ago I noticed that if the "class = " parameter was left blank on cloth armor pieces, the armor just went into limbo and were never assigned any class. Most armor pieces specify the class so they're easy to populate but there were a large number of cloth pieces without any designation.
I mainly play Mages and knew that they wore cloth armor and (incorrectly) inferred that any class that could wear more substantial gear would have no use for cloth. I therefore populated it with the {{AllMageCats|Equipment|yes}} so it would at least show up in the Mage category. I sincerely appreciate you bringing this to my attention. My goal is to provide accurate information in all the articles I work on!
Would you happen to have an authoritative source that supports your statement "that classes able to use heavier armor are inclusive to all lighter armor" ? Thanks again for your observations and input! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 16:26, September 3, 2014 (UTC)
I know that this is a zombie contribution, but I just wanted to note that in Kingdom of Sky and later, there for a while Paladins were wearing what would ordinarily have been mage gear, cloth robes etc. Because, at that time, a Paladin's damage was mostly spell damage, so more INT. We also had to have WIS, STR, and STA. Things have changed much for the better in that way!
But definitely, if you can equip plate, you can also equip chain, leather and cloth unless they are class-restricted. Chain wearers can equip leather and cloth (and in some cases, I've seen clerics and shaman use druid leather armor to get certain stats in the past, too). Leather wearers can also equip cloth. Finger wagglers get cloth and cloth only.
In Ye Anciaunt Dayes, there was Light Armor, Heavy Armor, and I can't recall what the in-between weights were termed. But there was a weight penalty associated with your gear. My mages had to find STR jewelry to be able to tradeskill adequately (the weight of the crafting raws). I would guess that was the start of the "who can wear what" hierarchy.
This is also why all purely appearance armor is classed as cloth, even when it has a plate appearance, so anyone can wear it. Yes, you can kit your mage out in what looks like heavy plate! :) -- Sigrdrifa (sig) ( Talk ) 00:09, December 1, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification! I remember back in the day my weak little mage had to constantly find a merchant to trade his copper to. If not, he'd be bogged down so badly from the additional weight that it was next to impossible to play. I don't even know how much good gear and money I discarded in the field just so I could get around. Take care! Paceyourself (sig) ( Talk ) 18:13, December 1, 2015 (UTC)
